Gather Ye Rosebuds in London

My sister-in-law is starring in ‘Gather Ye Rosebuds’ in London from 30th July – 3rd August. Winner – Best New Play, Brighton Fringe Festival 2013.

Gather Ye Rosebuds was originally inspired by Sandpit Arts‘ invitation for writers to respond to the Arab Spring. This play, set during a private ‘circumcision party’ in Cairo, was developed from a short scratch performance at the Nightingale into an hour-long play and performed with us in May for the first time.

The play depicts family relationships that unfold around an instance of female genital mutilation, and explores this highly controversial subject within the context of the Arab Spring, and the recent sexual assaults on women in Tahrir Square.

After generating animated audience responses and reviews during Brighton Fringe, the play has now won the New Writing South 2013 Best New Play Award and it’s already been selected for a run at respected new writing venue Theatre 503.
